The presentation was made in the presence of Attorney General and Legal Affairs Minister Anil Nandlall, who in short remarks, stated his firm opinion that donations of these nature to charitable institutions must be given adequate exposure so as to encourage more and similar donations and accountability. Former Member of Parliament and special advisor to the prime minister of Canada, Wajid Ali Khan also accompanied Omar Farouk to the presentation and stated his pleasure at what he views as the quality care provided to the children at the Shaheed Orphanages.
President of the Orphanages, Badruddin Hassan expressed his profound thanks to the IMO Canada for this donation and explained that since 2005, the board has spent over Gy$ 21 million in repairs to existing facilities and the installation of new facilities at the orphanages.
The president of the IMO and his delegation also attended a special dinner hosted in their honour by the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex. There, the delegation was able to view the work in progress at this leading Muslim institution in Guyana for the creation of a playing area for Saturday nights’ activities at the complex.
